Ned Smith is the third generation in his family to provide general contracting services in the Greater Hartford area.  The Bloomfield, Connecticut native started at age 19 working summers for his grandfather's construction company, The Wadhams and May Company.  His Uncle Ellie was Ned's foreman.  Ned learned from his grandfather that the work was "10 percent technical knowledge and 90 percent common sense", and that the best way to learn a new skill was by asking questions.

Ned went on to get a master's degree in education.  After some stints as a prep school teacher, college administrator and counselor he moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 1972 at the urging of an old friend in the construction business.  After several years as a general contractor, Ned became bored with the repetitive nature of new home construction.

After his return to Connecticut in 1982 with his wife Robbin, he established Ned Smith Construction in Connecticut to specialize in remodeling and renovations.  Updating, enlarging and improving existing structures gives Ned the opportunity to use his problem solving skills and creativity.  NSC thrives on renovation challenges, from updating a small bathroom in an old house to a whole house renovation.

"I'm intrigued when people come to us and say, 'We've been told we can't do that'."  With an able team of craftsmen under Ned's leadership and Robbin handling the company finances, NSC is another family affair, small enough to provide specialized service but efficient enough to offer value.
